These are composers whose music can be very dense, but is really logically constructed and ends up being REALLY cool to listen to when played right. Admittedly, I began writing this tune with the thought of "I'm going to write something hard just because," however this quickly evolved into an incredibly musically rewarding project to work on, even beyond its complexity! I'm so happy with the music on "Songs from In Between." What started as "I'm going to write and publish some tunes just to expand my portfolio" became "I'm going to make an album that will be a memory of how I wrote music before I went to grad school." I arranged the whole program over roughly 10 days slightly before and slightly after Thanksgiving break, and figured since I'm at a school like UNT and have the charts I'd finally have the resources to make this type of show happen! I had a lot of fun really stretching out the source material on this arrangement, with some dense reharmonization, laid back swing, and form extensions to name just a few fun tricks at play in this arrangement. I'll be trickling these videos out here and there, as there were some really nice moments on this show that I think the rest of the world needs to be able to hear! (Fun fact: we did this show on 2 rehearsals, and had a few subs at one of those rehearsals. Because of that, it's not perfect, but it's close enough!)

I wrote this tune after a very serious long-term relationship I was in ended abruptly. While this chart is primarily about the bittersweetness of a romantic breakup, those feelings can also apply to the end of any kind of valuable interpersonal relationship. Whether it's a life partner or a close friend you've drifted apart from, there's almost always a fondness for the memories you created together that'll be missed--even if the end of that relationship is ultimately for the best. The memory of what things used to be often left me with the thought that in another lifetime, things might've worked out differently--hence the title." Being the JRPG fan that I am, I couldn't think of a more appropriate tune to start Split Screen with! The music of Chrono Trigger has always had a hold on me, and Corridors of Time has been one of my favorites for the longest time (it may be my second "Dearly Beloved", and if you've been here for a long time you know what I mean by that). By far, my favorite part to write was the metric modulation toward the middle - you'll know it when you hear it ;) We will be launching our next video in a few weeks!
