This arrangement was heavily inspired by an Alan Baylock tune called "Without A Doubt' (Lab 2018 | Rhythm of the Road), and you can pretty clearly hear some of the ideas I stole from that composition (drum solo intro, obsession with the flat 2 major chord, grooves, etc.), and to date this is one of my favorite arrangements I've ever written for my channel. Mixing this was a bit of a challenge - similar to my arrangement of Song of Healing, I wrote for a cutdown big band (one less tenor sax, trumpet, and trombone), and I did struggle a bit trying to decide how to evenly space out the horns without those extra voices to help fill the space. I think that in combination with my first time mixing live drums gave me some work to do, but I'm really happy with how this came together, and do think this pushed me to grow in some ways as a producer. The players on this truly make up an all-star band, and really helped make this project even more special by bringing their excellent musicianship to the table! Between Avery killing that lead trumpet part, Carlos' sick bari solo, Dom's incredibly musical drumming, and so much more, there's not a thing about this cover that isn't super cool to me. I'm really excited to be doing more big band projects because it gives me an opportunity to work with all of these fantastic musicians, and to do some more creative and exciting arranging with more options and textures available! I'm hoping to release one big band arrangement a month for the rest of the year, along with my usual videos in between - I hope you all are looking forward to the rest of this year! --------------------------------------------------- My name is Eric - and I play trombone! National Park Marching Band Arrangement by Eric L.

Prepare for the greatest marching band Johto has ever seen! Hire me to write for your band (and more!) at https://www.ericltrombone.com ! SUBSCRIBE for more video game jazz trombone: https://youtube.com/ericltrombone This one will not be available for streaming on other platforms for a little bit - sorry about that! --------------------------------------------------- Well this is certainly different for my channel! I decided to write a marching band arrangement as a sort of proof of concept to open up a new line of work (and it worked - I've been hired to write my first high school marching band show for the band's 2022 season)! The only things that I would change about this if it were being written for a field show would be the key and some minor drumline programming work - D-flat is not particularly friendly for high school bands for long periods of time, but for professionals in a studio it's no problem at all! This isn't something I'll be doing super often on my channel, but I needed somewhere to post this portfolio piece... And to promote my WEBSITE! I soft-launched a website in October so I would have a professional and organized place to point potential clients to see my portfolio, and it's got it all - demo reel of band arrangements, original game music, and a bunch of other cool stuff! I hope you'll consider visiting ericltrombone.com and maybe signing up for my mailing list! The further you get into the game, the more intense and dramatic the theme becomes as a signal of just how much danger Sora, Donald, and Goofy are truly in as they prepare to face off against Ansem. I wanted to mimic the in-game evolution of the "Blast Away" theme in my own arrangement, and opted for many different tonal and textural shifts to achieve this level of tension. Just like in "Kingdom Hearts" our heroes eventually prevail over the darkness, and as the dust begins to settle different parts of the theme slowly meld together, eventually building into a triumphant fanfare to greet the trio and celebrate their success.

People who read my descriptions often probably remember that I'm a massive fan of jazz trombonist Marshall Gilkes, and his most recent album "Waiting to Continue" inspired a decent portion of this cover. "Waiting to Continue" is a pianoless jazz trio album that sometimes includes a multitracked trombone ensemble to supplement the trio sound. I especially loved the way it was incorporated into Marshall's composition "Anya's Tune" so I naturally wanted to give it a shot myself. I really enjoyed the challenge of writing a jazz arrangement of a video game tune without the piano to provide a harmonic backbone, it forced me to use the trombone ensemble in some new ways and required a bit of a different approach to improvising that I had a lot of fun with! Massive thanks to my friends Allison, Andy, and Dom for playing on this: it's always a pleasure to be able to work with other musicians to create something special like this. You guys rock, thank you! Next up is a Chrono Trigger cover that I'm sure will knock your socks off! I moved at the beginning of June and was pretty busy with that for a little bit: now that I've got my feet back on the ground, I'm super excited to get back to work :D --------------------------------------------------- My name is Eric - and I play trombone!
